This month’s nugget

How can you develop the curious leader within you?

There isn’t just one definition of a curious leader, but here are a few traits I’d like to share with you..

đź’ How will you cultivate curiosity this year? Where will you look for something new?

Leadership nudges

Inclusivity, for real

I recently had the privilege of contributing to HEC Paris’ programme, Leader as a Coach, talking about inclusivity. This experience brought me back to my days at Nestlé and reminded me of a leadership dimension we cannot overlook today: embracing diversity as a strength and truly understanding what inclusivity means.

Two fundamental aspects of inclusive leadership:

  1. Listening and asking better questions: what does each individual need in order to feel valued and trusted?

  2. Empathy: taking the time to really understand who’s on your team, their experiences, and their perspectives.

Inclusive leadership starts with humility - questioning ourselves, letting go of assumptions, and committing to change from within.

đź’ So, let me ask you: how are you adopting an inclusive leadership posture?

Feel free to reach out if you’d like to explore practical methods to improve active listening and awareness-building.

Portrait of an inspiring leader

Meet Charlotte David

I met Charlotte David when I was at NestlĂ©. Among the leaders of the management committee, Charlotte, at the time General Manager for NestlĂ© Infant Nutrition, impressed me by the way she listened, through the quality of her questioning and her personal investment in social justice.  The successful roll out of the market’s Diversity and Inclusion strategy required leadership at Management level. I was very grateful Charlotte immediately said “YES” to lead the LGBT+ employee resource group. Inspired and supported by her leadership, we raised awareness and implemented actions so that each employee concerned could come to work feeling fully accepted to be themselves.

When recognised for her investment, Charlotte often replied very humbly saying that what was achieved was thanks to the group effort. →Connecting with Charlotte is a great way to start the year.

What does curiosity mean to you?

What made me raise my hand when someone from the Rotary Club visited my secondary school English class to present their one-year exchange programme to the USA? To this day, I’m not entirely sure. I suppose it was curiosity. The desire to discover a foreign country, immerse myself in a new culture and expand my horizons. That choice shaped my year in Virginia and opened doors I couldn’t have imagined.

For me, curiosity is about saying yes.

Yes to exploring, like when I worked at a European level and needed to understand both the common threads and distinct nuances of the diverse markets I collaborated with. It taught me the importance of seeing the bigger picture while respecting local differences.

Yes to different perspectives, knowing my understanding of the world is limited by my experiences. This mindset fuelled my empathy for parents of babies during years of working in infant nutrition, a journey rich in emotion and meaning.

Yes to change, even as experience tempts you to think you’ve seen it all. The fast-moving world demands an open mind and my current mission with a startup has been a humbling lesson in adaptability.

Yes to connections, by building trust and taking the time to understand what drives others, fostering collaboration and unlocking their best contributions.

But curiosity also requires discernment. Saying yes to everything isn’t sustainable. To choose wisely, I anchor myself in my core values (equity, teamwork and respect), set clear priorities and prepare for the inevitable disruptions.

I’m excited to see what 2025 has in store and where curiosity will take me next!

Let's draw energy from Adele's voice!

I hope you have an energized start to the year! See you next month,

With all my energy,
